What to expect from hypnotherapy
Many people still don't know how hypnotherapy works, and it's not their fault. It's only been in the last fifty years or so that hypnosis is gaining traction and respect from the professional community. That is why I am taking this opportunity to describe what you can expect out of your hypnotherapy sessions with me.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN HYPNOTHERAPY
You will probably contact me through email or phone. If you contact me through email, I will give you the option of arranging a phone consultation. Though not necessary, the phone consultation gives you an opportunity to get your questions answered and it allows me to gain more insight into your specific needs before we even begin.
After you request your first session, I will then send you a set of forms to your email for you to fill out prior to your session. This is so that we can begin working with hypnotherapy as soon as possible without wasting time on filling out the forms in person.
[The forms you can expect to receive are as followed:
1. Acknowledgement of Fees and Services: Signing this form means that you agree to pay the fee previously discussed in exchange for hypnotherapy services. It also details my cancellation policy, which is you need to cancel within 24 hours or be subject to paying the full fee of that missed session.
2. Disclosure of Services: This form details what hypnotherapy entails according to California law and that some conditions require a psychological or medical refer prior to working with me in hypnosis.
3. New Client Questionnaire: A series of questions regarding your history so I can get a better idea of who you are and how best to work with you. ]
YOUR FIRST SESSION
Your first session is considered to be a trial run. I know many people are concerned with the commitment required with therapy, but there is no commitment with your first session. I consider it to be a test run to see if we work well together. I check to see if my services resonate with you, if you are truly ready to dig deep into the process of therapy, and if we get on well as a team.
In your first session, we will discuss what brings you into therapy. We will talk about your history, your concerns, your goals and address any questions you have. Then we will move into the hypnosis. I will perform a simple test that will show me the best way to talk with you while you're in hypnosis according to your subconscious preferences. I will then perform a series of inductions, or scenarios that allow you to relax and enter hypnosis. Then I will facilitate a forest imagery exercise that will give us both some insight into how your subconscious works.
TYPICAL HYPNOSIS SESSIONS
Typical subsequent sessions consist of cognitive and hypnosis work. We will begin by discussing the happenings of your previous week, your progress, your needs and goals as they change, and anything else that helps you on your hypnotherapy journey. The hypnosis will again consist of a series of inductions and some kind of exercise that is designed to help solidify the changes you want to see. I often like to assign exercises for you to complete throughout the week so that you can get the most out of this journey. I will not assign these exercises if I feel that it stresses you or hinders you in any way. Therefore, I request that you make a strong attempt to complete it.
I check in frequently with my clients to ensure that they are comfortable with the therapy, that they are seeing the progress they want to see and to address any concerns or suggestions they have regarding their therapy. If there is something you do not understand, or don't particularly like, I make time for us to resolve these things.
Different people progress at different rates, so I cannot tell you a general statement of when you shall expect to exit therapy. However, I can tell you that when the time comes, I make it a goal for us to end our time together in celebration regardless of circumstance. My door is always open, and I would be happy to see you again if you need assistance in other areas of your life.
