I ran across a quote today that said "before you succeed you must believe that you can." In a nutshell, this is one of the biggest reasons why hypnotherapy matters. We have all had a life time of subconscious programming. Anytime an event happened, it went into our library of expereinces. The more an event of similar expereince happened, the more ingrained that expereince and our take away became. The more ingrained it was the harder it is now to change our perception of this experience. We have subconscious attachments to our actions, reactions, habits and choices.
In order to make a significant change in regards to a habit, you have to change the way you percieve that habit (for the sake of example, let's say that this habit is weight loss, since that is the number one thing people seek hypnotherapy for). Sometimes this means having to look at the subconscious attachments (i.e. weight can be viewed as a protective shell and then you have to consider why you need to feel protected and what would happen if you were to lose that shell.) Sometimes this means looking at possible scenarios of secondary gain (i.e. exercise can be uncomfortable for people who aren't used to. Upkeeping a healthy lifestyle involves a lot of work, responsibility andaccountability to yourself. It can be overwhelming, so the secondary gain here would be taking the path of least resistence since it is the path you are already accustomed to.)
So now you aren't only dealing with the weight itself, but the history of the weight gain, the benefits, and the resistence to change. Suddenly the problem becomes bigger than simply wanting to drop down to your ideal size. There are all these cross references in your library of experiences that detail why this doesn't feel like a feasible outcome. So you have to change the way you view your lifestyle habits.
This is where hypnotherapy comes to play. A hypnotherapist will work with you to abolish your old ways of thinking and establishing new thoughts that eventually turn into actions and later into habits. While you're making new adjustments in your physical life, a hypnotherapist will keep you on track so that your subconscious prgramming lines up with your desired outcome. This is what people in my feild mean when we say that changes can feel more natural, and even happen quicker than if you were to just change your outward habits. Hypnotherapy tuns mountains back into molehills so the uphill climb isn't so steep.
